Irene Howe
Batavia - Mrs. Irene Howe, 96, of Batavia and formerly of East Main Street Road in Stafford, a cafeteria employee at Duffy-Motts in Hamlin, died Thursday, (July 31, 2008) at Batavia Nursing Home.
Mrs. Howe was born July 9, 1912 in Bergen, a daughter of the late Herman and Elsie (Gartley) Montgomery.
She loved gardening, baking, sewing and spending time with her dogs. Mrs. Howe was known as "Grandma Howe" to all of those that she babysat.
Survivors include a daughter, Elsie (George) Hart of Rochester; two daughters-in-law, Stella Howe of Batavia and Midgie Howe of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is the wife of the late George Howe, who died in 1969 and the mother of the late Roger, Blain and Neil Howe. Mrs. Howe is also predeceased by a brother, Earl Montgomery and three sisters, Margaret Hunt, Vera Pickle and Neva Pimm.
Calling hours are Monday, (August 11th), from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Activities Fund at the Batavia Nursing Home, 257 State Street, Batavia, New York 14020.
