Prominent Batavia businessman, Arthur H. Marshall, III, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia. Mr. Marshall, a Batavia native, was born July 5, 1934, the son of the late Arthur H. Marshall, Jr. and Muriel K. Marshall. He is also predeceased by his sister, Roxanne Marshall. He was a 1952 graduate of Batavia High School, and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Colgate University in 1956. Mr. Marshall served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1961, attaining the rank of Captain as an air controller in El Toro, California, and Iwakuni, Japan. Upon his return to Batavia, he joined his father in Marshall's News Store and the Batavia Times Publishing Company. As a community volunteer, Mr. Marshall was affiliated with the Board of the American Red Cross, St. Jerome Hospital, the United Way, the Richmond Memorial Library, the Boy Scouts of America, the Chamber of Commerce, Grand View Cemetery, and the Genesee County Economic Development Corporation, the predecessor to the GCIDA. In addition, Mr. Marshall was a director of Griswold & McWain, Inc., publishers of the "Batavia Daily News", serving as board chairman. He was also chairperson of the Batavia M&T Bank Advisory Board, a director of the Buffalo M&T Advisory Board, and a director of the Bank's parent board, The First Empire State Corporation. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Susan Maybach Marshall; his daughter, Anita Hawes; his son, Arthur (Theresa) Marshall, IV; four grandchildren, Dr. Katherine (Daniel) Okoniewski, Alexandra (Andrew) Bruce, Arthur Marshall, V and Elizabeth Hawes. He will always be remembered for his warm and giving spirit by his many friends and loyal employees. There are no prior visiting hours. His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19th, 2018 at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 East Main Street, Batavia. He will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
