On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, Belva Ruth Calnan, loving Mother and Sister, passed away in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 83. Belva was born on June 11, 1936 in Forty-Fort, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her son, Robert Calnan with whom she resided and was well taken care of, her sister; Donna Chamberlain of Albion, NY, her nieces; Melissa and Heather Chamberlain also of Albion, NY, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Belva graduated from Oakfield-Alabama Central School in 1954. Her career included working as a teacher for special needs children at BOCES which was the job she truly loved, and later as a caretaker for mentally challenged adults for ARC, both of which are in Batavia, NY. She also worked earlier as a secretary for Vanguard Abrasives in LeRoy, NY. Belva’s favorite activities were reading, bowling, bingo, playing games on her computer, and watching football. She was known for her warm smile and her kind and compassionate spirit. Belva was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene (Golden) Calnan, her Brother-In-Law John Chamberlain, as well as her beloved niece, Linda Michalak. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, where services will immediately follow visitation. Burial to follow at the Cary Cemetery, 21 Albert Street, Oakfield. A luncheon will follow graveside services at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 2 Main Street, Oakfield, New York 14125.
