Elba - Benjamin J. Ligon, Sr., 75, died Thursday, December 15, 2016 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia after having been admitted earlier in the day.
Mr. Ligon, Sr. was born March 11, 1941 in Society Hill, Alabama, the son of the late Benjamin Turrance and Minnie Ligon Houston.
He was a member and Deacon of the Church of Brotherly Love and served as an usher for Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Ligon was a former employee of Frank J. Calarco & Sons for many years and a retiree of the Eastman Kodak Co.
He is survived by his wife, Hattie B. (Miles) Ligon, whom he married 1962. Also surviving are two sons; Benjamin (Carla Capizzi) Ligon, Jr. of Batavia and Scottie (Christi LoTempio) Ligon of Elba, two daughters; Patricia (Ira) Stephens-Moss and Shirley Woods both of the state of Alabama and 5 grandchildren.
Friends may call on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 516 Ellicott Street, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
