Batavia, NY - Betty A. Mohney, 83, of Batavia, NY, a medical secretary at the former Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia prior to her retirement in 1987, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia, NY.
Mrs. Mohney was born June 1, 1930 in Dora, PA, a daughter of the late William and Gladys (Delp) Knapp.
She was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church, a former board member and co-chair of the Best Year's Fellowship at the Wesleyan Church. She was a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader for 13 years in Eden, Church School Teacher and Children's Division Coordinator, WSM Treasurer for 10 years, Circle Chairman and President, along wither her husband, of the Couples' Club (formerly the Clockwatchers) of the EUM Church, served on the Finance Committee and Chairperson of Religious Education and Adult Ministries at the Paradise United Methodist Church in New Mexico.
She Worked with Mothers March of Dimes in Batavia and Eden, was a Junior Choir mother and Treasurer of the Teenage Mothers Club, ELMC Senior and UMF Advisor with EUMC Church. Her family was honored as "1962 Family of the Year" at the EUM Church.
She worked as the Certified Unit Secretary at the Presbyterian Hospital in NM and also worked at Tri-County Hospital in Gowanda and for Dr. Martin in Eden.
Her husband, Guy M. Mohney, died July 19, 2009.
Survivors include 3 sons, Chanley (Debbie) Mohney of VA, Duane (Annamarie) Mohney of PA and Dwight (Debbie) Mohney of KY; 2 daughters, Sonya Mohney and Sharon Hills, both of Alexander, 3 sisters, Leona Davis of FL, Joyce Toven, of PA and Cleora Schaffer of OH; 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grand-sons, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 East Main St., Batavia, NY and from 11 to 12 p.m. Friday at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 30 S. White St. Brookville, PA., where services will be at 12 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Genesee County Nursing Home, 4th Floor, 278 Bank St., Batavia, NY 14020 or to Eden United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2820 E. Church St., Eden, NY 14057. Burial will be in St. John's At Windy Hill, Boonville, PA.
