Obituary of Carl Meleca
Batavia - Carl Meleca, age 91, of Batavia, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the New York State Veteran's Home.
Mr. Meleca was born June 7, 1928, in Calabria, Italy, a son of the late Joseph and late Maria Cristina Baggetta Meleca.
A longtime barber in Batavia, Mr. Meleca was a member of St. Joseph's Church and proudly served his country with the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughters; Karen (Rick) Fredrickson of Melbourne, Florida and Christina (Ben) Gammack of Attica; his grandchildren; Dominic and Isabella Lamitina; two brothers; S. Anthony (Terry) Meleca and C. Benjamin (Jeanne) Meleca, both of Columbus, Ohio his sister; Olga Meleca of LeRoy and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is predeceased by his brother; Frank Meleca and his sisters; Frances Martino and Josephine Meleca.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia with Fr. Ivan Trujilio officiating. Entombment, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph's Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carl's memory may be made to the activities fund at the New York State Veteran's Home, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia, New York 14020.
