Batavia- Carol Ann Houseknecht, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9th, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Batavia, on Friday, December 31st, 1937, Carol spent her entire life embracing the community she dearly loved.
Carol was the beloved wife of Charles S. Houseknecht, with whom she shared nearly 70 wonderful years, having married on June 28, 1955. Together, they built a loving family and a lifetime of memories.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles, and their children, Douglas (Sharon) Houseknecht, Jeffery (Cristie Lamb) Houseknecht, Sr., Daniel (Melissa Currier) Houseknecht, all of Batavia, and Karen (Tim) Seward of Delmar. Carol was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, and her legacy extends to twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Her memory will also be cherished by her siblings Beverly Sprout of Middleport, Marcia Ruth of Byron, and Thomas Hake of Braselton, GA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Carol in death were her parents, Malcolm and Geraldine Passmore Hake, her grandson, Jeffery Houseknecht, Jr., and her brother, Paul Hake.
Carol spent her professional life as a dedicated secretary at Houseknecht Motors in Batavia. Beyond her career, Carol was a passionate traveler, having explored over fifty countries with her husband, Charles. Her true joy, however, came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Carol's life during visitation at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, on Thursday, March 13th, 2025, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, honoring Carol's life and legacy. She will be laid to rest in Western New York National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Genesee Cancer Assistance, 127 North Street, Batavia, New York 14020, in Carol's memory.
She will be remembered as a beacon of love and kindness, whose laughter and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy will continue through the generations of her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
