Alexander - Charles Krtanik, 90, of Alexander, a Batavia business man and proprietor of Krtanik Jewelers for 62 years in Batavia, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia
Mr. Krtanik was born May 19, 1925 in Akron, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Slava) Krtanik.
He served in Okinawa during WWII with the US Army. He graduated from Western Pennsylvania Horological Institute in 1948, was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors in Columbia, PA, Post 1602 Post VFW; Hanson Brothers and Alabama American Legion Posts; the former LOOM and D.A.V., Charles also was an accomplished harmonica player. He enjoyed trapshooting and turkey shoots at various locations. He was an avid fisherman and for 29 years flew into favorite fishing spots in the Canadian north country.
He was an avid bowler with his own team “Krtanik Jewelers”, and sponsored many other teams. At one time he had the only left handed team around. He was also a dealer in antiques.
His wife, Ruth I. (Goodman) Krtanik passed on August 31, 2012.
Survivors include 2 sons: Randall Krtanik of Alexander and Chris (Michelle) Krtanik of Bethany; a daughter: Colleen Krtanik of Chatsworth, CA; 4 grandchildren, Rachelle (Bill) States, Katrina (Dustin) Crosby, Janelle Krtanik and Kyle Krtanik; 1 great-grandchild, Evan Pekarski; several nieces and nephews and his dog, Jack
He was the brother of the late Frank Steve, John, Joseph, Katherine and Catherine Josephine Starkweather.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Batavia Chapter #166, 222 Richmond Ave, Batavia, NY 14020
