Oakfield - David J. Gendron, Sr., 64, of Oakfield, a truck driver over the road for 18 years and 27 years with R&W Trucking and Excavating in Elba, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at his home, in Oakfield.



Mr. Gendron was born November 30, 1949 in Leominster, MA, the son of the late Adrian and Frances (Scott) Gendron.



He served honorably in the US Navy from 1967 to 1973 as a crew member of CVA-34 USS Oriskany during the Vietnam War.



A graduated of Ayer Shirley Regional High School, he enjoyed dirt track racing, bowling at Scopano Lanes and Peterbuilt Trucks. He loved his grandchildren and his friend and companion Alex.



He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Sanders) Gendron whom he married July 15, 1992; he is also survived by four children, David (Danette) Gendron, Jr. of Oakfield, Jerome (Ellen) Peck of East Pembroke, Jamie (Dave) Woodard of Oakfield and Brandon Gendron of Oakfield; a mother-in-law, Evelyn Sanders of Batavia; two brothers, Jimmy (Debbie) Gendron and Fran (Diane) Gendron, both of MA; two sisters, Judy Platt of CA and Sue (Mike) Esilionis of MA; 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.



Friends may call on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave. Oakfield, where services will follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for distribution to charities of choice.
