Basom - Donald M. Endres, Sr., age 88, of Basom, custodian at the Oakfield-Alabama School District for 33 years, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at his home in Basom. He was born May 20, 1930 in Buffalo, the son of the late Rudolph and Anna Thim Endres. A member of Padre Pio Parish, Mr. Endres served on the bereavement committee and was a greeter. He was very active in various committees at the former St. Patrick's Oratory. An active bowler, reader, stamp collector who enjoyed gardening, he coached little league baseball when his son played. He is survived by his wife, Barbara R. Martin Endres, whom he married September 17, 1949; his children, Donald R. Endres, Jr. of Basom, Sandra (Craig) Andrews of Cleburne, Texas and Sally (Pete) Martino of Scottsville; seven grandchildren, John (Krista) Andrews of Columbus, Ohio, Scott Andrews of California, Megan (Shane) Korman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bryce, Miles, Nicholas and Tyler Martino of Scottsville; his sister, Shirley (Frank) Gross of Basom and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at Saint Padre Pio Parish ~ Oakfield Worship Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. He will be laid to rest in St. Cecilia's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alabama Fire Department, P.O. Box 798, Basom, New York 14013 or to the Haxton Memorial Library, 3 North Pearl Street, Oakfield, New York 14125.
