Doris G. Beuler

d. December 9, 2017

Batavia -Doris Green Beuler of Batavia, New York passed away Saturday, December 9th, 2017 at her home in Genesee County among friends.   Those fortunate enough to have known her are surely aware of her love for horses and dogs. However, few may know that Doris’ formal equestrian career began at the age of four with daily riding lessons at Buffalo’s Saddle and Bridle Club. Her father and mentor, James G. Green (the youngest senior executive of the A&P Tea Co. at the time) would upgrade her steed as quickly as her skills developed. In true form from many of the “greatest generation,” she was instilled with an incredible work ethic. As such, she quickly rose to the top and competed at the highest levels winning most of the women’s events and consistently among the men’s too. After the infamous stock market crash of 1929, the duo decided to go into the horse business full time. As Green’s Farms, they breed, raised, trained, showed and sold their champion lines throughout the country. Had it not been for a career-ending fall suffered during one her 70 plus weekly rides, she may have continued in the equestrian business well beyond the 1960’s. As it was, her perseverance was unyielding and she turned that champion pedigree focus toward the industry of show dogs. Here she shined yet again, bringing nothing but the finest to the ring. At this point she had even expanded Greens Farms to include a well-respected and successful grooming business. At its peak, many locals can recall their school fieldtrip to Green’s Farms on East Main Street and the plethora of poodles frolicking around the grounds. Never having worked for anyone but herself, Doris very much enjoyed her life’s work and didn’t turn off the lights for the last time until her 80th year. After that she could still be seen throughout the community on her daily excursions with her Husband, Albert (Al) H. Beuler. They were married on October 4, 1952. He predeceased her on June 29, 2003. She loved to travel, shop, spend time with friends and served as the treasurer for the Tonawanda Valley Kennel Club for 60 years. She will be deeply missed among her many devoted and loving friends. Surviving are: nephew James G. Green (Barbara); grand-niece and nephew Green: Christina and James A.; grand-nephews Chadwick: Sturgis (Butch) and Phillip W.; and great grand-nephews Chadwick: Samuel E. and Steven P. She is also preceded in death by her parents, James and Edith Curtis Green, brother James Green, most beloved niece Pauline G. Neophitas and grand-nephew Stephen J. Chadwick. Friends may call Saturday, December 16th from 1:30-3:30 pm at the H.E. Turner & Co. funeral home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia, NY. A funeral service will be held immediately following on site. Memorials may be made to the: Volunteers for Animals, P.O. Box 1621, Batavia, NY 14021.
