Bergen - Douglas Schlenker, Sr., 67, of Bergen, passed away Sunday, (January 27, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Schlenker was born September 24, 1945 in Rochester, a son of the late Robert and M. Dorothy (Lattimer) Schlenker, Sr.
Doug was a long time member of the Bergen United Methodist Church. He was an avid football fan, and he especially enjoyed his beloved Buffalo Bills. For many years he was a member of various golf leagues and in his younger years was a drummer in the Drum & Bugle Corps, in Rochester.
He will be remembered as a hard worker, who always provided for his family. One of his greatest pastimes was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also particularly enjoyed riding his lawnmower, and loved his dogs.
Surviving are his wife, Carmen (DePalma) Schlenker, whom he married Dec. 26, 1975; his children, Michael (Brenda) Schlenker of Bergen, Mark (Kathy) Schlenker of Spencerport, Donna McLaughlin of Perry, Trina (Garrick) Yue of Chili, and Douglas (Terry) Schlenker, Jr. of Geneseo; brothers, Robert (Diane) Schlenker and , Gerald (Sylvia) Schlenker, both of Fl; sister, Shirley (late Bruce) Reed of Manchester, brother-in-law, Joseph (Judy) DePalma of Hilton, sister-in-law, Patty DePalma of Chili; and his beloved dog, Ricky. 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and many dear friends, and his beloved dog, Ricky, also survive.
Doug is preceded in death by his twin brother, Donald Schlenker.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. Doug's Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, (January 31, 2013) at the Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 South Lake Street, Bergen. Please consider wearing your favorite sports clothing in honor of Doug. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Burial will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen.
