Batavia - Mrs. Elsie I. Howard, 85, of Batavia, entered into rest Sunday (September 2, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center.
Mrs. Howard was born December 5, 1926 in Karthus, PA, a daughter of the late Leonard and Hazel (Gross) Rupe.
For the last five years she was a resident of the Genesee County Nursing Home.
Elsie was employed at both of the hospitals in Batavia. First, at St. Jerome's Hospital in food service for 12 years and then for 12 years at Genesee Memorial Hospital in housekeeping.
Elsie enjoyed teaching vacation bible school and Sunday school. She went into clown ministries having designed and hand sewn all of her own costumes. Elsie also enjoyed gardening and her turtles.
Survivors include four daughters, Gloria (Raland) Boyce of Pavilion, Doris Keane of Tennessee, Joyce (Joe) Jewett of Oakfield and Shirley (the late Donald) Durham of Basom; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, four brothers and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Batavia Assembly of God, 24 North Spruce Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Indian Falls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
