Bergen - F. Eileen "Tally" Almquist, 88, of Bergen, died Thursday, (August 2, 2012) at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.
Mrs. Almquist was born February 23, 1924 in Kiowa County, CO, a daughter of the late Freeman and Leo Hazel (Eyestone) Talbot.
Eileen worked as a welder's assistant, helping to build ships during WWII in Oregon and later became a school teacher in Nebraska. She also worked in the Weather Bureau in Nebraska before relocating to Bergen in 1956.
She retired in 1983 as director of the Byron Bergen Library; was the Bergen Village Historian; member of the Triangle Club, Bergen Business and Civic Association, Bergen Historical Society, Republican Women's Club, league of Woman Voters and Historians of Genesee County. Mrs. Almquist was also a correspondent for the Daily News for many years.
Tally was the wife of the late Earl V. Almquist who passed away in 1998.
Survivors include five children, Vickie Almquist of Bergen; Joel Almquist of Boston, MA; Dr. Robert (Dr. Perry) Almquist of Charlotte, NC; Eric (Jill) Almquist of Staten Island; and Rebecca (Peter) Quartieri of Brockport. Her grandsons, David, Ryan, Conor, Alex, Will, and Tyler Almquist also survive.
Mrs. Almquist is preceded in death by her sisters, Audrey McGolden and Ramona Sherman.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. Tally's Memorial Service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Bergen First Presbyterian Church, 38 South Lake St., Bergen. Memorials may be made to Byron - Bergen Public Library, P.O. Box 430, Bergen, NY 14416. Burial will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen.
