Batavia - Florence H. Morse passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2015 at age 99. She was born June 28, 1915, to Edward and Lena (Hofmeister) Herthum in Oriskany, NY.
Florence was predeceased by her son, Edward Morse who died in 1973, her husband, Jack in 1982 as well as her parents and 7 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Morse of Webster, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Florence graduated from Geneseo Normal School and taught elementary school in Spencer, Northport and Lockport, NY. After marrying in August of 1945, she and Jack ran the Cape Cod Kitchen Diner on West Main St., Road in Batavia. Florence then became the Children's Librarian at the Richmond Memorial Library for 15 years. She completed her career as the Librarian at John Kennedy Elementary School.
Upon retirement, she spent several winters in Florida and then returned to live year round at the Manor House in Batavia where she spent 13 very happy years, thanks to the wonderful staff and residents there.
A special recognition of gratitude goes out to Joyce Myers and Tina Hagen for their loving care of Florence.
Friends may attend services at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Main St., Batavia, NY 14020 or Shreiner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point, Tampa, FL 33607. Private burial will be in Grand View Cemetery. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia.
