Obituary of George J. Capp
ROCHESTER - George J. Capp, 86, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, (February 2, 2020), at his home in Rochester.
Mr. Capp was born March 22, 1933, in Batavia, a son of the late John and Mary (Lis) Czapeczka.
Mr. Capp served his country honorably with the Air Force where he was a mechanic. Following his discharge, he worked for many years as a mechanic with the US Post Office in Rochester. George, or as he preferred to be called, Capp, was the longest running patron of the Strathallen Hotel in Rochester. He was a talented gardener, an expert craftsman, and an excellent chef. He will be remembered for his love of classical music, and his willingness to help most anyone who he thought needed it. He was always at the ready to mentor or to aid in any way he possibly could.
He leaves behind close friends, Mark Potter and Josh Nichols both of Rochester, and James Toepper of Brockport. Several other dear friends also survive.
Capp is preceded in death by his sister, Lee Capp.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street in Batavia, where Capp's funeral service and military honors will immediately follow calling hours at 4 p.m. Private burial will be in Grand View Cemetery in Batavia. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Capp's memory may be made to Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642 or the Eastman School of Music, 26 Gibbs Street, Rochester, NY 14604.
