Batavia - Mrs. Gertrude Gray, 98, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Gray was born February 10, 1915 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Goodenbury Elmore.
A 1931 graduate of Batavia High School, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and enjoyed going to any area craft shows. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Sue Naik, Dr. Gary Smith and the staff on the 5th floor at the Genesee County Nursing Home; especially Christine and Jennifer who cared for their mother in her final days.
Her husband, Leo Gray, passed away in 1996.
Survivors include three sons, Richard "Moose" Gray of Batavia, Robert (Sharon) Gray of Stafford and Gary (Dianne) Gray of Hudson Falls; a daughter, Nancy E. Gray of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Matthew (Jen) Gray of Batavia, Maura Gray of Hudson Falls, Chad (Melissa) Valyear of Attica and Allyson Valyear of Batavia; four great-grandchildren, Leo and Lilly Gray and Brian and Justin Valyear; a brother, John Elmore of Batavia; and several nieces including Janet Carlson of Batavia, nephews, cousins and family friends, Bob (Karen) Pastore, Pat Constantino and Melody Frisby.
She is the mother of the late Patricia A. Gray and sister of the late Thomas, William, Emmitt, Eugene and Edward Elmore and Catherine Hale.
There are no prior visiting hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. It was Mrs. Gray's wish that all who attend her Mass to dress casual. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
