Bergen - Harris Arthur “Coke” Busmire, 76, of Bergen, a Foreman Welder Millwright at Carpenter’s Millwright Union Local 1173 in Rochester for over 50 years, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Unity Hospital, in Rochester. Mr. Busmire was born May 2, 1941 in Bergen, a son of the late Howard William and Florence (Lapp) Busmire. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a great community volunteer, an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman and coached Peanut League Baseball at the old Bergen Elementary School on Rochester Street. He never missed a year placing flags on veteran's graves on Memorial Day and was a member of the "chicken cooking crew" for local chicken barbecues. He was a life member for over 50 years of the American Legion, Sackett Merrill White Post #575, a life member of the Bergen Rod & Gun Club; and a member, for over 50 years, of the Hesperus Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons in Bergen. He shared his welding talent with many students in the area. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Mae (Johnson) Busmire of Bergen, whom he married July 27, 1963; a daughter, Annette (Gene) Boldt of South Byron; a son, Harris A. Busmire, Jr. of Bergen; a grandson, Jacob (Ashley) Kuczynski of Clyde; 3 brothers Richard (Kathleen) Busmire of SC, Richard (Joyce) Sands of Bergen, and Donald (Reba) Sands of Rochester; 2 sisters-in-law, Patricia Busmire of Byron and Judith Zirbes of Rochester; 2 brothers-in-law, Frederick Johnson and Walter (Mary) Johnson, both of LeRoy; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Howard W. Busmire, Jr. and brother-in-law of the late Marie Johnson. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake St, Bergen where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 315 Alberta Dr., Amherst, NY 14226 or to American Heart Association of WNY, 5488 Sheridan Dr., #300, Williamsville, NY 14231. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery in Bergen.
