BATAVIA - Jack H. Hartwig, 75, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at his home in Batavia.
Jack was born April 30, 1943, in Batavia, a son of the late John and Marjorie (Hilborn) Hartwig.
Jack graduated from Erie County Technical Institute. Jack was a Construction Engineer and the Quarry Superintendent for Dolomite Products Co., Rochester, for over 40 years before retiring in 2008. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church in LeRoy and enjoyed birdwatching, hunting, fishing and competitive sailing and was called a “wonderful and loving Dad” by his children.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Mapes) Hartwig, whom he married on December 29, 1990; 2 sons, Stephen M. (Kathy) Hartwig of Chili and Christopher (Lula) Hartwig of MD; 2 grandchildren, Angela & Brittinie Hartwig of MD; 2 step-grandchildren, Kaci & Claire Gallucci of Rochester; a sister, Laurie (Gene) Bischoff of NC; 2 brothers-in-law, Richard H. (Cynthia C.) Mapes of Batavia and Stephen E. Mapes of Bergen, a sister-in-law, Vicki A. Moore of AL and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Hartwig and Thomas Hartwig.
Friends may attend his Mass of Christian burial at 10 am on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peters Church, 44 Lake St, LeRoy, NY. Private burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack's memory may be made to Genesee Valley Audubon Society, P.O. Box 15512, Rochester, NY 14615. (
