Batavia - Jan VanWyngaarden, Jr., 78, of Batavia, a Custodian at Byron-Bergen School System, prior to his retirement, died Wednesday, (December 11, 2013) at Crossroads House, in Batavia.
Mr. VanWyngaarden was born January 10, 1935 in Rochester, a son of the late Jan and Evelyn (Wadsworth) VanWyngaarden, Sr.
He was a member of Byron Presbyterian Church, and was an avid sports fan. He especially loved the Yankees and Giants. We worked for many years at Ray Harts Garage in Byron.
Jan is survived by his siblings, Albertus "Dutch" (Karen) VanWyngaarden of Byron, Johannes "Tiny" (Sharon) VanWyngaarden of Clifton Springs, Frances (late Gary) Dickes of Elba, and Sharon (Neal) Dickes of Batavia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. VanWyngaarden is preceded in death by his siblings, Dirk (late Beverly) VanWyngaarden, Johanna Berry, and Mary Wass.
Friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 East Main St., Batavia, where Jan's Funeral Service will be held immediately following calling at 4. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021. He will be laid to rest in Byron Cemetery, Byron.
