Obituary of John W. Anna, Sr.




BATAVIA - John W. Anna, Sr., 84, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Rochester General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.



John was born January 29, 1935, in Utica, New York, the son of the late John W. and Ethel (Patterson) Anna.



John earned a Masters Degree and several other degrees from several colleges and universities in New York State.  He was a New York State Trooper for 38 years retiring as a Senior Investigator in 1993.  He was the head of the Major Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation as well as co-founder of the DWI Program at Genesee Community College.  He was the Chairman of the Stafford Republican Party and loved to be in the outdoors.  He was a hunter, fisherman and boater.  He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. (Stockbridge) Anna, whom he married on December 29, 1960; three children, Kathleen Gonzalez of Batavia, John W. (Felicia) Anna, Jr. of Beltsville MD and Kimberly (Jeff) Worthington of Batavia; grandchildren, Rachael Heatherman, Curtis Heatherman, Shawn Harris, Jamie Harris, Cory Anna, Kara Anna, Zachary Ireland, Troy Ireland, Gabrielle Henderson, Ian Sanfratello and Kyla Sanfratello and several great-grandchildren.


Friends may call from 1 - 3 pm on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019 at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St. in Batavia where a Time of Sharing will follow at 3 pm.   In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to The NYS Trooper Foundation 3 Airport Park Blvd., Latham, NY 12110-1441.
