John Haber

d. December 26, 2014

John B. Haber, age 90, of Batavia entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 26, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Born October 18, 1924 in New York City, he was the son of the late John and Rose Mudder Haber.

After attending Textile High in Manhattan, New York he enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served in World War II from 1943 to 1946 on both the USS Hopping and USS Tortuga in the South Pacific.

He was a member of Genesee Country Church in Oakfield. After twenty-five years of faithful employment as a machinist he retired in 1986 from Grahams Manufacturing Company following fifteen years of service as a spotter/cleaner with Deluxe Dry Cleaners.

His family can attest to the fact that he was a sports fanatic. Born and raised in New York City he remained a diehard fan of the New York Rangers and New York Yankees rooting for them from his recliner whenever they played. In his younger days he played on the YMCA basketball team and enjoyed being Captain of the Grahams bowling team for twenty years. One of his greatest achievements was teaching many local youngsters the value of sportsmanship coaching a Babe Ruth League for fifteen years; and he took great pleasure recounting stories of grown men stopping him in town and thanking him for being the best coach they ever had.

Married October 18, 1947 on his twenty-third birthday he is survived by his wife, Jeanne Eleanor (Ingalsbe) Haber of 67 years; daughters, Carole Haber of Brookline, Massachusetts, Donna Jean (John) Herbert of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Nancy (Matt) Paul of Gay, Georgia; grandson Sean Widlake of Seattle, Washington and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by fraternal twin sisters, Evelyn Holm and Ethel Schumann.
