Bergen - John A. Specht, 77, of Bergen, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Mr. Specht was born November 26, 1940 in Flint Valley, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Clifton and Helen Steffen Specht. A member of the Free & Accepted Masons, Hesperus Lodge and the American Legion, Sackett Merrill White Post #575, John served as Town Councilman in Bergen from 1989 until 1999 and served as Town Supervisor for the Town of Bergen from 2002 until 2010. He retired as an electrician technician in 1991 from Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester after 27 years. An avid golfer and self-described computer hobbyist, he enjoyed programming and loved astronomy. Mr. & Mrs. Specht had wintered in Valdosta, Georgia the past 14 years. A veteran of the United States Air Force, John proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy R. Taggart Specht. They were married on August 26, 1967. Also surviving are his sons, Kurt (Katie Williams) Specht of Brockport and Neil (Holly) Specht of Henrietta; four grandchildren, Bailey and Jakeb Specht and Dakota and Connor Maxwell; his siblings, Helen (Monroe) Whitmarsh of Perry, Mary D'Augustino of Greece and Clifton (Pamela) Specht of Layton, Utah and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. John's memorial services will be held on Saturday at 10 a,m, at Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 South Lake Street, Bergen. He will be laid to rest in Mount Rest Cemetery, Bergen.
