Obituary of John A. Yerger, Sr.
BYRON - John A. Yerger, Sr., 80, of Byron and formerly of Elba, passed away Thursday, (July 16, 2020), at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Yerger was born October 14, 1939, in Buffalo, son of the late LaVerne and Helen (Willis) Yerger.
John was a member of Northgate Free Methodist Church and a 35+ year member of AA. He was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed his hunts for Elk in the Rocky Mountains. He was a strong spirited person and enjoyed snowmobiling and racing.
Survivors include his sons John A. Yerger, Jr. of Darien, and James (Cheryl Ann) Yerger of Byron; grandchildren, Sara Ann (Nick) Berlin, Rebecca Ann (Louis Eysman) Yerger, and Cheryl Renee (fiance John Coppa) Yerger; great-grandsons, Easton James, and Brooks Levi Berlin; brother-in-law, Jerome Green of Alabama.
John is preceded in death by his sisters, Hilda (late Ruhland) Martin, Ruth (late Al) Giambrone, and Marion Green.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street in Batavia. John's Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank Street Road in Batavia. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to family.
