Oakfield - Mr. John W. Yunker, 91, of Oakfield, tool and die maker at Doehler-Jarvis Division of National Lead in Batavia for 35 years and World War II Navy Veteran, passed away Tuesday, April 23rd at his home under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.



Mr. Yunker was born June 15, 1921 in Batavia, a son of the late William and Mary V. Holihan Yunker.



A member of St. Padre Pio Parish, Mr. Yunker had longtime passion for restoring antique tractors. He would travel the countryside, and sometimes the country, looking for tractor parts to help with his restoration projects. He was one of the first in the area who put a plow on his tractor during winter to clean out area driveways. He had a large collection of small model tractors and cars and also enjoyed putting bicycles together.



His true passion was helping his family in any way possible and loved visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Guppenberger Yunker whom he married June 15, 1946; five sons: John (Barbara) Yunker of Greece, David (Vicki) Yunker of Alexandria, Virginia, Gregory Yunker of Gates, Kenneth Yunker of Chili and Jeffrey (Sandi) Yunker of Avon; three daughters: Mary Yunker of Batavia, Patricia Yunker of Oakfield and Suzanne Yunker of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; two brothers: Richard (Mary Lucille) Yunker and Donald (Joyce) Yunker, both of Oakfield; a sister: Joanne Schrauth of Hamburg; a sister-in-law, Irene Yunker of Batavia and seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.



He is the father of the late Robert D. Yunker who died on September 18, 1989 and is the brother of the late Dorothy "Peg" Mouldenhauer, Robert, Paul and William "Bill" Yunker.



There are no prior visiting hours. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia's Worship Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Cecilia's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the family to distribute to their favorite charities.
