Batavia - Martha J. Richenberg, age 98, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born Thursday, February 18th, 1926 in Winburne, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Gustav Nowatka and Martha Turik Nowatka.
A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia for over 75 years, Martha was a graduate of the former Park Avenue Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester and attended the Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, Connecticut. She was an obstetrical nurse at the former St. Jerome Hospital and served as supervisor of the department. Prior to her retirement, she was the night supervisor at St. Jerome Hospital. Martha volunteered for Crossroads House in Batavia and was a voracious reader who loved her cats.
She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur R. Richenberg who passed away on July 10, 1999.
Surviving are her children, Vance R. Richenberg, Colleen (Don) Beuerlein and Bryant Richenberg; her grandson, Aaron (Felicia) Richenberg; her great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jolena Richenberg; brothers, George (Caroline) Nowatka and David Nowatka and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her grandson, Joshua Richenberg and her sisters, Ruth Cade and Elizabeth Polowe.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Martha 's funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 1 pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Avenue, Batavia, New York 14020 or to the American Cancer Society,101 John James Audubon Parkway, Buffalo, New York 14228.
