Batavia - Mary Lou Stetka, 74, of Beaufort, North Carolina, formerly of Batavia, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Cobble Hill Nursing Home in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Stetka was born May 21, 1947 in Batavia, a daughter of the late George and Wilma (Nutting) Johnson.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Batavia and earned a Bachelors in Education from the University of Massachusetts. She worked as an elementary and middle school teacher in California and Massachusetts, and as a substitute teacher in Orchard Park, NY. She and her husband, the late Daniel J. Stetka, co-founded a genetics laboratory, Diagenetics, in the 1990s. She managed the finances there until they closed the business in 2015. She loved historical literature, dogs (especially golden retrievers), antiques, baking, and genealogy. She is remembered lovingly for her generosity and exquisite taste.
Surviving are her son, Bret (Amanda) Stetka, of Garrison, New York; a granddaughter, Nico Stetka; brother, Mike (Sharyn) Johnson; sister, Suzanne (Simon) Prensky.
There will be no visitation. Family and Friends are invited to attend Mary Lou's Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on January 10, 2022 at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street in Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Batavia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Cure PSP (psp.org).
