Batavia - Mrs. Mary S. Wassink, age 92, of Batavia, 30 year employee at Top Notch Foods, formerly Granger's, in Batavia, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Wassink was born January 20, 1920 in Java, a daughter of the late John and Gertrude Becker Stoffer.
A member of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, Mrs. Wassink was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing cards and loved taking care of her grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph H. Wassink, died in 1963.
She is survived by her children, Anne W. (J. David) Gallahue of Florida, John H. (Nanzy) Wassink of California, Jean W. (John) Cianfrini, William J. (Colleen) Wassink and Mary Jo (Shawn) Richley, all of Batavia; five brothers: Max Stoffer of Gainsville, Carl (Barbara) Stoffer of Gainsville, Joseph (Polly) Stoffer of Warsaw, John (Dorothy) Stoffer of Frewsburg and Peter (Janet) Stoffer of Conesus Lake; two sisters, Cecelia (Joseph) Daniels of Orangeville and Patricia (Robert) Everman of Tennessee; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her great-grandson Andrew Cianfrini who died in 2009 and her brothers, Anthony and Thomas Stoffer.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia (please meet at church). Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
