Binghamton - Mr. Michael G. Surowka, 50, of Binghamton, an attorney at Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP in Binghamton, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Surowka was born June 5, 1963 in Batavia, the son of Rosemary Griffin Surowka of Batavia and the late Theodore A. Surowka.
A 1981 graduate of Batavia High School, Michael was a 1985 graduate of Hamilton College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. A 1989 graduate from the Syracuse University College of Law, he was a member of the New York State Bar Association's Municipal Law Section. A member of the National Employment Law Institute and the New York State Public Employer Relations Association, Mr. Surowka had represented school districts across New York State for 20 years concentrating in teacher, employee and student relation matters.
Surviving along with his mother are two brothers, Shaun A. Surowka of Batavia and T. Griffin (Cathy) Surowka of Richmond, Virginia; two sisters, Maura (Peter) Morgante of Jamestown and Margaret Surowka-Rossi of Cambridge, NY and several nieces and nephews.
There are no prior visiting hours. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the American Heart Association, 20 North Pointe, Suite #130, Amherst, New York 14228. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
