Oakfield - Oliver J. Bruno, 92, of Oakfield, a Plant Manager at Haxton Foods, in Oakfield, prior to his retirement, passed away Saturday, (November 2, 2013) at the New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia, following a lengthy illness.



Mr. Bruno was born November 30, 1920 in Williamson, a son of the late Charles and Eva (Longrod) Bruno.



He served his country honorably with the Army during World War II. Mr. Bruno was a member and elder of the former Oakfield Presbyterian Church. He was very active with the Oakfield Lyons Club and was a past president. Oliver greatly enjoyed photography in his younger years and was skilled at adding color to black and white prints. He was an avid gardener, loved to follow the stock market, and enjoyed boating on Conesus Lake.



He is the husband of Florence (Wilbor) Bruno. The two were married in 1943 and celebrated their 70th anniversary this past summer.



Surviving along with his wife are his children, Sally (late David) Ross of Oakfield, Susan (Jan) Witkowski of Batavia, Stephen (Laura) Bruno of Durham, NC, Peggy (late Carlos) Storti of Brazil, Holly Wilcon of Geneseo; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Zaida Bruno of Webster. Several nieces and nephews also survive.



Oliver is preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Bruno.



Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. A memorial service with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New York State Veteran's Home - Activity Fund, 220 Richmond Ave., Batavia, NY 14020. Mr. Oliver donated his body to the University of Rochester Medical School.
