Patricia Burr

Elba - Patricia Anne Burr, 96, of Elba, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014. She was born January 31, 1918 in Buffalo, the daughter of John E. and Caroline (Bauer) Bickel. She was the wife of the late Marvin Eldred Burr with whom she shared almost fifty years of marriage.



Patricia was a graduate of Buffalo State College and taught art at the Elba Central School for twenty years. She also studied at the Albright Art School, University of Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology and attended many art workshops. She had been a member of the Rochester Art Club, Central NY Watercolor Society, Fine Arts League, Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, Plein Air Painters Genesee Valley, and the Batavia Society of Artists. She enjoyed time spent with "The Company" an informal group of nine women painters who gathered for painting, critique, travel, and shows/exhibits. Her love of history was evident in many of her paintings of local scenes and architecture.



Patricia was involved with the Elba Historical Society, the Richmond Memorial Library as well as the Home Bureau, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Sunday School.



Patricia is survived by her children, Susan (Walter) Wessels, Nancy (William) Smith, and John L. Burr; two grandchildren, Johnson (Mo Zhou) Smith, Abigail (Tristan) Belgrave; a great-grandson, Aero Smith. A brother and two sisters-in-law, John (Margaret) Bickel and Jean E. Burr Joy, as well as nieces and nephews survive her.



A memorial service for Patricia will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday (December 22, 2014), at the First Presbyterian Church of Elba, 23 North Main Street, Elba. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the building fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Elba.
