Obituary of Reyburn W. Campbell, Sr.
Batavia - Reyburn W. Campbell, Sr., 88, of Batavia, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at the New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia.
Rey was born May 3, 1931, in Batavia, a son of the late Clarence M. and Hazel A. (Blackmer) Campbell.
Rey will be remembered for the love he had for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, having always attended all of their events.
Working with children and adults was one of Rey's passions. After receiving his bachelor's degree, he taught 4th grade at Elba Central School from 1964 to 1969. In 1969, Rey became the elementary principal at Elba Central School, having retired in 1986. Rey enjoyed reminiscing with many of his past students. In his retirement years, Rey enjoyed his job as a real estate agent. Rey loved to play softball, tennis, cards, singing and working outdoors.
A veteran, Rey served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from January 3, 1952 to November 27, 1953 aboard the USS Quincy.
Rey enjoyed playing baseball for Batavia High School, where he was voted into the baseball hall of fame and also voted president of the senior class in 1949. Rey was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batavia.
Rey's family would like to thank the staff at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia for their wonderful care and compassion they showed Rey while he was a resident there.
Survivors include his children, Reyburn W. (late Patricia) Campbell, Jr. of Melbourne, FL, Scott K. (Valerie) Campbell of Rochester and Paula A. (Durin Rogers) Campbell of Batavia; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Neal) Campbell, Amy Campbell, Sara (Dan) LaManna, Bryce Rogers, Jake Rogers, Natalie Rogers and Luke Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Andrew LaManna and Matthew LaManna and several nieces and nephews.
Rey is the husband of the late Audrey M. Campbell and the brother of the late Dr. LaVerne E. Campbell.
Calling hours are Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia, were services will be held at 2:30 p.m. also on Saturday. Private burial with military honors will be in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.
