Richard Moon

d. September 25, 2014

Richard D. Moon, 70, a longtime resident of Oakfield, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, September 25, 2014. A disabled veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam, Mr. Moon was formerly employed at Kistner Concrete and Chapins Manufacturing.

He was a dedicated volunteer presently serving his community as an election inspector, a Historical Society and Planning Board member and a long time worker in the local thrift shops. Before his retirement, he also volunteered with the area's Boy Scouts and Little League organizations and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Mr. Moon was born on June 19, 1944 to the late Ellsworth and Ruth Richardson Moon in Oil City, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his loving wife, Grace; three step-children, Terry (Wayne) Shamblin of Oakfield, Leslie Ann Hintz of Elba and Ronald (Diane) Hintz of Robertsdale, Alabama; two grandchildren, Katie (James) Pinson and Andrew (Kara) Shamblin of Oakfield. He was known as "Pumpkin" to three great-granddaughters, Ashlyn, Lila and Aleah. He enjoyed spending time with his grand-dog, Angus. Other family members who will deeply miss him include a brother and two sisters, Ellsworth Moon of Butler, Pennsylvania, Peggy Vistins of Franklin, Pennsylvania and Donna Taylor of Conneaut, Ohio; a brother- and sister-in-law, Tim and Linda Richter of Oakfield; a mother-in-law, Olive Richter; two uncles, Kenneth Peacock and Kenneth Richter, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and longtime friends.

He was predeceased by his two brothers Robert and Bill Moon.

Mr. Moon loved reading books, traveling to new places, and attending Chinese auction fund raisers on most weekends with his wife "Maggie." The couple recently returned from a trip to Cape Cod, where he became known as "Cupcake" by a bus load of travel companions. Richard Moon loved talking to people and made friends everywhere he went.

To honor his wishes, there will be no services or calling hours. Donations may be made in his honor directly to the Wounded Warriors.
