Bergen - Robert S. Long, 91, of Lake Road, Bergen, died Monday, June 2, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.
Mr. Long was born October 30, 1922 in Stone Church, NY, a son of the late Frank E. and Bessie (Seward) Long.
Mr. Long was a graduate of Bergen High School, class of 1941. He served in the Army in WWII and was discharged in 1946 as a Corporal in the 764th Amphibian Tractor Battalion.
He was a self-employed farmer for many years in Bergen. After retiring from farming, he was employed by Box Industries in LeRoy and later at the Genesee Country Museum. He enjoyed making and demonstrating colonial brooms as well as explaining other colonial history.
Mr. Long was a life member of Stone Church Presbyterian Church in Stone Church and served the Church and the Stone Church Rural Cemetery as a trustee for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth (Arnold) Long of Bergen; 2 sons, Donald (Cathy) Long of Leavenworth, KS and Richard (Suzanne) Long of Bergen; a sister, Marian Airth of Bergen; 6 grand-daughters, three great-granddaughters, 1 great-grandson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Long enjoyed playing games with his granddaughters and great-granddaughters and Euchre with family and friends. He spent summers working in his garden as well as enjoying family picnics and games in the yard.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake St., Bergen. Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Stone Church Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Robert to the Stone Church Presbyterian Church, 7549 S. Lake Road, Bergen, NY 14416 or to a charity of your choice. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery.
