Batavia – Robert "Bob" Walton, 74, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, (February 28, 2018) his son's home in Oakfield.
Mr. Walton was born August 13, 1943 in Batavia, a son of the late Merle and Alfreda (Yasses) Walton.
Bob was an Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was a Corrections Officer and retired from Wende Correctional Facility in 1998.
Bob was a member of the Community Fellowship Church in Middleport, as well as the American Legion Post 0332, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 560, Polish Falcons, and Godfrey's Pond. He was also a member of the Veness-Strollo VFW Post 1602 where he was past Commander, and was Chairman of the VFW National Home for Children for New York.
He was a "techie" and enjoyed spending time working in his gardens as well as making his famous chili. He loved his Oliver and Wheel Horse tractors as well as attending car shows, and playing Santa. However, Bob enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandkids whom he cherished most of all.
He is the husband of the late Donna (Cerce) Walton who passed away in 2012. The two were married on December 16, 1967.
Mr. Walton is survived by his children, Marcia (Michael) Barnes of Elba, Robert (fiancé Rachelle Laney) Walton, II of Oakfield, and Merle Walton of Churchville; sisters, Marti (Ray) Meinagel of Pittsford, and Frances (Arthur) Straub of Alexander. 11 grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Carl Walton and a sister Patricia Dilling.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia where Bob's Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, (March 7, 2018).
