Obituary of Ronald J. DiSalvo






Ronald J. DiSalvo, 86, of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at United Memorial Medical Center.



Ron was born October 28, 1932, in Batavia, a son of the late Salvatore and Mary (Miller) DiSalvo.



A 1950 graduate of Batavia High School, Ron enjoyed his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, golf and tennis.  In 1952, he joined the United States Army and is a Korean War Veteran.



Ron was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church, where he was a life member of the St. Anthony’s Holy Name Society and served as the society’s president.



Ron operated the Army Navy surplus store on Main Street, called the Outdoor Store.  In 1966, he joined the Cultrara’s Shoe Store and would purchase the store in 1973.  In 1975, Ron changed the name of Cultrara’s to DiSalvo Shoe Store.  In August of 1976, DiSalvo’s relocated to the Genesee Country Mall becoming the first store to open in the mall.  Ron would be later joined by his wife and four children at the store.  A branch store was opened in 1982 in Niagara Falls, NY.



Ron was the president of the Genesee Country Mall Association and the Brooklyn School PTA.  Ron was a life member of the VFW.  He served as the vice president of the City of Batavia PTA Council.  He also served on the board of directors for the YMCA.



Ron was on the committee as chairman of Group I at St. James Church and was also a neighborhood commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America.



He was very involved with Pop Warner Batavia Youth Football, serving on the board of directors, co-chairman of the league, treasurer and ran the league refreshment stand.



Ron was a member of St. Nicholas Club, Chamber of Commerce, Batavia Area Jaycees, Loyal Order of Moose, Paolo Busti Cultural Foundation, Community Betterment – Quality of Life in Genesee County, Crimestoppers of Batavia and the YMCA tennis club.



Survivors include his wife, Rose B. DiSalvo of Batavia; children, Michael DiSalvo of Batavia, Kathy (Dan) Reuter of Darien, David (Sandy) DiSalvo of Batavia and Sam (Michele) DiSalvo of Batavia; grandchildren, Stacie (Michael) Anderson, Kellie (Michael) Ottley, James (Christina) Stack, Katie (Scott) Helser, Aren (Lesha) DiSalvo, Valerie (Matthew) Cramer, Jessica DiSalvo, Samuel DiSalvo, Amanda DiSalvo and Sabrina DiSalvo; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucy, Olivia, Jacob, Mackenzie, Jeremy, Ethan, Briar, Rowan, Silas and Henry; brothers, Jim (Connie) DiSalvo of Stafford and Sam (late Viola) DiSalvo of Batavia; sisters, Florence (Joe) Condidorio of LeRoy and Kitty (Louie) Severino of Ohio; a brother-in-law, Paul (Marie) Ritter of California and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main St., Batavia. Ron's Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 12:00 p.m. at Ascension Parish, 19 Sumner St., Batavia. Entombment with military honors will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Batavia.
