Sara ("Sue") McKinsey Johnson, age 96, of Batavia, NY, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the LeRoy Village Green Residential Health Care Facility. She spent her life caring for others. Sara was born August 29, 1921 in Helen Furnace, PA, daughter of Harold and Doris McKinsey. Sara served in the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corp during World War II. She was a graduate of The Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (1946), the Sister Elizabeth Kenny Foundation (1952), and the Mayo Clinic School of Physical Therapy (1952). After raising her seven children, she returned to work as a nurse at the Batavia Nursing Home from 1973 to 1987. Sara was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Elmore T. Johnson, who passed in 2000. They were longtime members of Resurrection Parrish. Surviving are her children, Timothy (LuEllen Doty) Johnson of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Kevin (Amanda Lye) Johnson of Kingwood, Texas, Dennis (Jennie) Johnson of Aurora, Colorado, Elmore Johnson of Messina, NY, Brian (Trudy Chapman) Johnson of Lima, NY, Marianne Dawson (Bob) of Batavia, NY, and Eileen Johnson (Peter Brown) of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren Sara (Brian) Kurth & Elliott (Lynsey) Johnson, Jennifer (Christina Hansen) Johnson & Mark (Danielle) Johnson, Blake Cox, Adrianne Jenkins & Logan (Melanie) Jenkins, Steven (Pamela) Johnson & Rachel (Kyle) Keating, Bobbie Jo (Jared) Borglum, Jenel Johnson & Autumn Johnson, Eli (Kasey) Dawson, Marlee Dawson, Cortney Dawson & Robert III (Krystal) Dawson; and great-grandchildren Liam & Zane Johnson, Aiden, Dashawn & Jasmine Jenkins, Wyatt, Ella & Waylan Jenkins, Addison & Braxton Johnson, Easton & Cooper Keating, Collings & Colton Borglum, and Hayley Dawson, Amelia Dawson, Maddox Dawson, Parker Dawson & Hunter Dawson, and a sister, May Read of Knoxdale, Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews. Sara is a sister of the late Dorothy Raymond, Naomi Clouse, Dick McKinsey, Thomas McKinsey, Ansel McKinsey, Lance McKinsey, Norman McKinsey, Mary Hall and Maxine Alexander. Calling hours are Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia, where prayers will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sara's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. also on Tuesday at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Sara will be laid to rest in St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Batavia. Memorials may be made to Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020.
