Oakfield - Shirley M. Stenson, 84, of Oakfield, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Rochester General Hospital.
Mrs. Stenson was born April 28, 1929 in Valley Stream, NY, the daughter of the late Julius and Medora (Anderson) Baehrel.
She was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish since 1990 where she served in the choir, Altar and Rosary Society, as a volunteer in the church office and was a Catechist in the St. Padre Pio Parish Faith Formation Ministry. She enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, creating jewelry crafts, and playing the piano and organ. She was known for great dinners and BBQ at her home.
Her husband, Robert F. Stenson, Jr., died November 14, 2002.
Survivors include a son, Daniel (Christy) Stenson of Rocklin, CA; 2 daughters, Michele Stenson Taylor of West Henrietta and Marguerite (James) Arelline of Oakfield, 7 grandchildren, Joseph Waala of Bethlehem, PA, James (Christina) Waala of Lancaster, Matthew Taylor of Rochester, Catherine (Philip) Toal of Chippawa Lake, OH, Tyler Stenson, Jake Stenson and Amelia Stenson, all of Rocklin, CA, 3 great-grandchildren, Sadie Waala of Albany, Maggie Waala of Miami, FL and Alexander Waala of Lancaster, a brother, Julius M. Baehrel, Jr. of Earlton, NY; a sister-in-law, Patricia Konopka of Peoria, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave., Oakfield. Her Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia's Worship Site, 56 Maple Ave, Oakfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Coxsackie, NY.
