Brockport - Violet M. Karolak, 98, of Brockport, a former school nurse at LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Lakeside Biekirch Care Center, in Brockport.
Mrs. Karolak was born March 30, 1916 in Niagara Falls, a daughter of the late Vincent and Julia (Prenanta) Nork.
She served as a Lieutenant J.G. with the Navy's Nurse Corps during World War II from 1944 to 1946, before serving in the Navy Reserves from 1946-1951. She had been stationed at Samson, Brooklyn and Great Lakes Naval Bases. She was a member of St. Brigid's Church in Bergen and the Sweden Senior Center in Brockport. She attended Niagara University and graduated with her B.S. in Public Health from the University of Buffalo then graduated from the nursing school at St. Mary's Hospital.
Her husband, Richard I. Karolak, died December 2, 1995.
Survivors include 2 nieces, Mary Catherine (John Martino) Statt of Buffalo, and Judith Ann Foster of Hilton and a great-nephew, Foster Armendinger of Hilton.
She is the sister of the late Dorothy Foster and sister-in-law of the late Donald Foster.
Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday January 17, 2015, at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake St., Bergen, followed by her Mass of Christian burial at 12 p.m. at St. Brigid's Church, 18 Gibson St., Bergen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 422 S. Clinton Ave. Rochester, NY 14620. Burial will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Bergen
