Walter D. Barnes was born January 20, 1921 and died October 26, 2013, after a short illness.



Mr. Barnes was born in Buffalo, a son of the late Walter and Grace Barnes.



He has six brothers and one sister. Walter was predeceased in death by his wife of 68 years, Blanche M. Barnes. Walter's daughter Carol passed away two years ago.



He is survived by sons, Walter Barnes of New York City and Gary Barnes of Batavia, and daughter, Gail Stacy of East Pembroke. He has eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.



Walter was a decorated veteran from World War II, he fought in the Philippines. He worked for over fifty years in dentistry for Dr. Mulchay Sr., Dr. Mulchay Jr. and Dr. Marchese. He belonged to the First Baptist Church in Batavia for fifty years and was a deacon and an usher. He was part of the Batavia Players and a bowler.



There are no prior calling hours. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (November 16, 2013) at the First Baptist Church of Batavia, 306 East Main Street, Batavia. A luncheon will held at noon in the Fellowship Hall of the church at the conclusion of the funeral.
