Hornell - William E. Tanner, 82, of Hornell, formerly of Oakfield, a tow motor operator at US Gypsum Co. in Oakfield, for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1991, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at St. James Mercy Hospital, in Hornell.
Mr. Tanner was born September 4, 1931 in Johnstown, PA, the son of the late Edward and Nellie Tanner.
He enjoyed gardening, western movies and bowling.
His wife, LaRue V. (Paul) Tanner died November 28, 2012.
Survivors include 5 children, Edward M. Tanner and Teresa L. Tanner, both of Oakfield, Regina L. Tanner and Michael A. Tanner, both of Hornell and Milton H. (Deborah) Tanner of Bath; a brother, John Smith of Bluff, TN; 2 sisters, Alice McHdoo of Jamestown, NY, Faith Adair; 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Tanner, Ernest Tanner, Dolores Hall, June Palmer and Leona Gardner.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave. Oakfield, where services will begin at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Assoc., 20 North Pointe, Suite #130, Amherst, NY 14228. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery,
