Rochester - William J. Zirbes, 73, of Rochester, longtime resident of Bergen, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Zirbes was born June 18, 1943 in Buffalo, the son of the late Walter Benjamin and Ann Paulson Zirbes.
A United States Navy veteran, Mr. Zirbes was a member of the American Legion, Merrill-Sackett-White Post #575 in Bergen and the Bergen Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing, reading and crossword puzzles. He worked as a manufacturing engineer at Taylor Instruments and Amplaco Plastics in Rochester.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy I. Johnson Zirbes; his son, Scott Zirbes of Orlando, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Frederick Johnson of Rochester and Wally (Mary) Johnson of LeRoy; his sister-in-law, Marjorie ("Coke") Busmire of Bergen and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Marie Johnson.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen, where his services will follow visitation at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bergen Fire Department, P.O. Box 428, Bergen, New York 14416 or to Scottsville Pet Adoptions, 3750 Scottsville Road, Scottsville, New York 14546.
